Do my solar panels store energy for use as needed?
One of the best things about powering your home with solar panels installed by Power Home Solar is that excess electricity produced by your solar system goes back to the power grid for a credit via a process called net energy metering (NEM), or net metering for short. That’s money put back in the pocket of those who go solar.
While some may be familiar already with net metering, you may wonder if your solar system includes a storage option, where you can still draw on your solar power even in night hours, when your panels have no available sunlight to produce energy. At this time, Power Home Solar offers no battery-plus-storage options, as that adds additional cost to the consumer. Net metering offers the same effect without the additional cost, and consumers still have the power grid as a reliable backup. Any excess energy produced by your system during the day offsets the amount of power you draw from the power company. You only pay for what you use, minus the credits your panels produce!
It’s important to note that in the event of blackouts, your grid-tied solar system shuts down for safety reasons. As utility workers work to repair damage to power lines, they cannot afford to have excess energy sent back into the power grid. Your panels continuing to produce power in those instances would produce dangerous working conditions.

The important takeaway: Net metering allows you to benefit from all of what your system produces. And it’s done without the cost of adding a battery and storage to your system.
Getting credits for unused energy and locking in the current and future cost of your solar electricity are two big reasons why there is real value of owning your power via a solar panel installation vs. continually renting it from the power company.
Power Home Solar would love to be the company you work with for your install.
