Graphic shows resilience of residential customers that want solar
The 2018 Utility Solar Market Snapshot recently released by the Smart Energy Power Alliance (SEPA) included a rather interesting graphic. SEPA has been producing its annual snapshot for the past 11 years, and the graphic shows mostly progressive growth in U.S. solar capacity from 2007-2017, with the outlier being 2016. Take a look at it below:
Why the dip in 2017 from 2016? There’s good reason for that.
“The expected sunsetting of the federal investment tax credit — which happily did not occur — really accelerated the market in 2016,” said Daisy Chung, Research Manager and lead author of the report, via a press release. “But, without the spike, we saw upward growth from 2015 to 2017 repeated across most regions and market segments.”
Taking only the residential sector into account, added solar capacity between 2016 and 2017 declined only 6 percent, indicating a resilience among homeowners to continue adding solar at similar rates following a tax credit deadline that never materialized.
Going back to 2015, you’ll notice that the graphic indicates that the residential sector has been largely flat. But try telling that to Power Home Solar, which has seen explosive growth in the past three-plus years. It was recently ranked No. 12 nationally among residential rooftop solar contractors by Solar Power World, and it was named No. 96 on Inc. 500’s list of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies in 2017. Power Home even recently launched a partnership with the NFL’s Detroit Lions, where it installed solar panels on a garage at Ford Field and at the team’s training facility in Allen Park, Mich.
Power Home does business in four states (Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia), and it is the No. 1 residential solar provider in each of those markets. If you’re thinking about going solar, Power Home would love to talk with you.
With Power Home Solar’s innovative solar program, homeowners can go solar for $0 up-front cost, save money on their electric bills, and generate their own clean energy. The solar panels installed on your home are American made and come with a 25-year warranty, with many panels expected to last well beyond that.
