Virginia solar: Virginia Tech students showing how to power future with solar
Not convinced that solar is the future? Try telling that to a group of Virginia Tech students who are scheduled to compete in the Solar Decathalon Middle East in November.
The U.S. Department of Energy created the Solar Decathalon, which began in 2002 and has since expanded internationally, with Dubai hosting one of the two competitions this year. Virginia Tech students and those from 19 other universities around the globe will compete in 10 contests that challenge students to design and build solar-powered homes. The goal is to create a home that also integrates local and regional characteristics of the Middle East.
Virginia Tech’s plan is to showcase a modular home “that can be mass-produced with the complex components all installed in an ideal factory setting providing the necessary precision assembly.”
While future leaders in renewable energy are already thinking about ways for best powering the future, solar panel technology is already here, and Power Home Solar can help you reduce your dependence on your power company, make your home go green and save you some additional green in the process.
Solar panels can be either secured on your roof or via a ground-mounted array, allowing your home to take advantage of a clean, renewable energy resource that returns daily. Except for night hours, there is no off switch on the sun! Every solar panel installation that Power Home completes comes with our energy efficiency package, which includes added blown insulation into your attic, a Nest thermostat, a hot water heater blanket, LED light bulbs and an attic tent. This added efficiency combined with your solar panels will save you tens of thousands of dollars over the lifespan of your system.
With our innovative solar program, homeowners in Virginia can go solar for $0 up-front cost, save money on their electric bills, and generate their own clean energy. The solar panels installed on your home are American made and come with a 25-year warranty, with many panels expected to last well beyond that. Our turnkey service means we do all the legwork so you don’t have to.
