POWERHOME Solar’s 2019 plan distilled down to one word? Growth!
On Wednesday, we reviewed the many accomplishments that POWERHOME Solar enjoyed in 2018. From the opening of two new markets to forming high-profile partnerships to doing great things in the communities we serve, it was a year in which the company has so much to be proud. But guess what? We’re forecasting even more excitement in the new year.
“This was the most exciting year ever in anything I’ve done in business,” POWERHOME CEO Jayson Waller said. “But I’m the type of guy that that’s not enough. Next year’s gotta be even better.”
Just what lies ahead in 2019? Waller envisions the company leaping into new markets, creating a new division, offering key new products and reaching an employee count of over 1,000. This from a company that ended 2017 with a little more than 200 employees and now employs more than 650. The growth is a testament to the company’s mantra of building a movement, one solar panel at a time and making the most of what’s possible. Here’s what’s simmering on our 2019 solar stovetop.
Commercial solar, not just solar commercials!
If you know a little bit about where POWERHOME has been in 2018, you’ll know that we developed partnerships with four NFL franchises (Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers) and already made commercials with three of those teams. But this section isn’t about television commercials. It’s about POWERHOME opening a new commercial division to better serve businesses that, like homeowners, want to reduce their power bills and save money.
POWERHOME’s first official commercial division will open in Michigan, with other markets to follow. However, while Michigan will be the first official market that we target in this regard, potential commercial customers in POWERHOME’s five other markets still can get in on the fun. We never want to turn anyone away from getting solar, especially when conditions are near perfect for businesses to make the jump. With the 30 percent federal tax credit available for one more year and 100 percent bonus depreciation, solar makes considerable sense as a business investment. Imagine how much more profitable your business could be if you no longer had to pay a power bill.
Even more partnerships with sports teams
We are very proud of our partnerships with the Panthers, Browns, Lions and Steelers. With those teams on board, POWERHOME boasts partnerships with 12.5 percent of the 32 NFL franchises. We’ve already installed solar panels for the Lions and Browns, and we will be doing the same for the Panthers and Steelers soon. But we’re not stopping there.
Waller said his goal is to add another 5-10 such sports partnerships in 2019. POWERHOME is even looking at partnering with universities.
“We want to be the preferred solar company for sports franchises,” Waller said.
January marks the full rollout of Silfab as POWERHOME’s solar panel provider. The key selling points of Silfab panels are that they are American made and come with a 30-year power production warranty, which is five years longer than what is typical in the solar industry. We are proud to install these American-made solar panels, and it is also a source of pride for our customers too.
New markets ahead?
POWERHOME entered two new states in 2018 in Ohio and Pennsylvania, and the consumer interest in solar in those states has been high. Just where could POWERHOME be headed in 2019? Waller said that list includes Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas. Adding any or all of those states would complement our work in existing markets in Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.
At the close of 2018, POWERHOME had more than 650 employees. That’s an incredible number, given the fact that the company began business in 2015 with just 15 employees. Most of that growth has happened in the past year. POWERHOME ended 2017 with 210 employees.
“It’s exciting, but it’s a lot of work,” Waller said. “We haven’t had time to stop and smell the roses or enjoy the success because we’re all on the grind. We don’t have time to slow down. We have a really awesome team.”
Waller envisions filling the company’s new 17,000 square-foot office space in suburban Detroit. Right now, there are only about 25 employees in that space. He wants to add about 100 more people.
“As we open up those extra markets, we’re gonna have to add sales folks, installers, warehouse managers, admins,” Waller said. “So lots of opportunity in the new states and markets we go in, as well as building out our own markets on the back end with our own markets.”
