Solar power panels are being installed on five municipal buildings throughout the City of Harrison. This ground-breaking initiative is expected to help the town save on energy costs each year over the next 30 years and positions this mid-Michigan town as a leader in renewable energy. The 1,634 solar panels (661.92 KW) are being installed at City Hall, the Fire Hall, water tower, pump house and wastewater treatment facility. These locations were selected because these are the Harrison city buildings which are the largest consumers of power.

POWERHOME SOLAR was selected to provide and install the solar panels in a multiphase project that started earlier this year and is scheduled to be completed in the coming months. In total, the panels are expected to produce over 750,000 kWh of electricity per year and offsetting over 90% of their electricity consumption.

Tracey Connelly, the City Manager & Clerk for the City of Harrison, said her community prides itself on forward-thinking and is intent on using taxpayer money wisely.

“The City of Harrison spends over $130,000 annually from the budget just in these locations,” Connelly said. “Solar power is one of the most popular sources of renewable energy. The monetary savings plus the eco-friendly advantages of solar power is why the City of Harrison decided to move towards this clean energy production.”

POWERHOME SOLAR has been operating in Michigan since 2017 and has installed more than 25,000 kilowatts of solar on homes and commercial buildings throughout the state.

“Our footprint continues to expand across the state as more Michiganders embrace renewable energy,” said Jayson Waller, CEO, POWERHOME SOLAR. “Electricity costs in Michigan are some of the highest in the country, and the financial as well as environmental benefits of adding solar energy are undeniable. We hope Harrison will become an example for other municipalities looking to reduce fixed costs and decrease the use of fossil fuels.”
