How heavy are solar panels? Heavy enough to be super durable
One of the myths about solar panels is that they are more fragile than papier-mâché. Not so! These mono-crystalline silicon panels are incredibly durable and are continually being made better as technology advances.
Solar panels look like they have delicate glass tabletops because of their sleek, black design, but they are built to withstand wind, rain, high and low temperatures, humidity and hail, just to name a half-dozen things. They can even be run over by a tank, as Power Home Solar’s exclusive panel supplier, Mission Solar, so humorously showed in a video. If they happen to crack or malfunction, it mostly likely won’t be because a flock of seagulls came and took up temporary residence on your roof.
SOLAR EDUCATION: Power Home helps you learn the ABCs of solar
Each panel that Power Home Solar installs measures approximately 65 inches by 40 inches and weighs about 40 pounds. For arrays of 20 panels, that would add 800 extra pounds over that covered span of your roof, with the weight rising or falling proportionately based on the number of panels you need to power your home. Our team of structural engineers will evaluate your roof’s condition to make sure that your roof can support your panels.
The durability of your solar panels is also validated by their 25-year warranty, and many panels are expected to last longer than that. There is very little maintenance needed for the panels, as they are fastened securely on your roof or ground-mounted unit.
We make it easy on you to start using clean, renewable solar energy with $0 up-front cost. The solar panels installed on your home are American-made, which is a point of pride for our business.
