Lions’ Punter Sam Martin, Power Home Solar Team Up to Kick-off STEM/Earth Day Education Program for Local Students

DETROIT, MI:  On Wednesday, April 18, 2018, Detroit Lions Punter Sam Martin, along with renewable energy experts from Power Home Solar, will be teaming up to educate students on renewable energy through STEM  activities for Earth Day.

Martin, who has been giving back to Detroit and it’s surrounding communities since he was drafted by the National Football League’s Detroit Lions in 2013, partnered with Power Home Solar to try and give kids a boost in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) studies with an eye toward future career opportunities in green technology.

“I’m really excited to play a role in helping to educate what could be our next generation of energy leaders,” said Martin.  “Our goal is to help peak the students’ curiosity in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, and explore STEM-related careers where they could discover new ways to harness and preserve the earth’s natural resources.”

Power Home Solar, one of the fastest growing American companies to specialize in solar energy and roofing services, created the STEM education program to get students thinking about how they use energy, where it comes from, and how renewable energy sources like the sun can help reduce our carbon footprint and preserve the earth for future generations.  Students will learn about the science and math behind the engineering, design technology, and economics of solar power, as well as opportunities for advanced studies and innovation in the field of renewable energy.

Martin and the professionals from Power Home Solar worked with Jay Holtvluwer, a STEM / 21st Century Computer teacher at Carter Middle School (12000 Masonic Blvd.) in Warren, Michigan, to schedule three Earth Day educational sessions for 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students on April 18.
